The former Ligue 2 – Cape cross for Frantzdy Pierrot in Haifa

fourth scorer League 2 last season with 15 hits, Franzdy Pierrot flew last summer for the Israeli championship. With Maccabi Haifa, the 25-year-old Haitian forward has started to make a name for himself on the European scene and looks well on his way to writing a first line on his record.

In competition with Yannick Gomis or sometimes associated with the latter, Frantzdy Pierrot had to fight, until his third season at En Avant Guingamp. In 2022, he ended up becoming obvious to Stéphane Dumont with a Ligue 2 record of 15 goals and 4 assists, almost as essential as Youssouf M’Changama (9 goals, 15 assists). The two men also left a considerable gap in the Costa Rican attack, kept at arm’s length by Jérémie Livolant since this summer. In 2021-2022, the former Mouscron player surpassed the record of the previous two seasons combined.

In Haifa, the fourth team of his career, Pierrot established himself much faster: in his third game with the Greens and in his first assignment, he scored a brace against Olympiakos in the second leg preliminary round of the Champions League (4-0 ) before still shaking the nets against Apollon Limassol (Cyprus) and Red Star Belgrade. Absolutely fundamental in Maccabi’s journey towards the group stage, he signed two assists there (one against Juventus Turin, the other against Paris Saint-Germain) confirming his status as a player at European level. Unfortunately, the Israeli club, fourth in the group, missed out on qualifying for the Europa League.

Naturally, Frantdzy Pierrot has had very little left in Barak Bakhar’s starting XI since the start of the season. In the league he has five goals and one assist in 13 appearances, with a clear acceleration since mid-October (4 goals scored in the last month of matches before the World Cup). His performance is perhaps slightly overshadowed by that of the winger Omer Atzili, true star of the league (12 goals and 9 assists in all competitions). In Ligat HabursaMaccabi Haifa remain on six wins in a row and are four points ahead of another Maccabi, that of Tel Aviv at the top of the championship.
