The former head of the public library of Klaipėda district will come to the door of the court

The prosecutor of the Organized Crime and Corruption Investigation Department of the Klaipėda District Prosecutor’s Office submitted to the court the criminal case investigated by the officers of the Special Investigation Service (STT), in which accusations of abuse of office have been brought against the former head of the Klaipėda District Municipal Library, Indra Tamašauskiene.

The pre-trial investigation was led and organized by the prosecutor of the Organized Crime and Corruption Investigation Department of the Klaipėda District Prosecutor’s Office. The investigation was carried out by STT Klaipėda board officials.
The initial information about the potentially unfair activities of the manager of the Jonas Lankutis Public Library was reported to STT by the mayor of Klaipėda district municipality, after his appeal, a pre-trial investigation was started.
According to the data of the pre-trial investigation, the former head of the public library, not having the legal opportunity to award herself a bonus, possibly took advantage of her subordinates and thus obtained financial benefits. The totality of the data collected during the investigation allows us to reasonably suspect that I. Tamašauskienė awarded three employees of the mentioned institution higher bonuses than what was provided for in the employee promotion project and persuaded them to transfer part of the received payment to her. It is believed that in this way the woman could illegally receive more than half a thousand euros.
As a result of such self-serving actions of the accused, which exceeded their authority, the public library suffered great reputational damage, as well as the Klaipėda district municipality, the founder of the institution.
The Penal Code provides for a fine or imprisonment of up to seven years for a person who, being a civil servant, abused his official position or exceeded his authority in pursuit of financial or other personal gain.
The criminal case was transferred to the Klaipėda District Court.
