Apple remains one of the few major manufacturers that hasn’t shown much interest in foldable screen mobile phones beyond a few patents. Samsung has entered this field with its Galaxy Z Flip3 5G model, for example. While waiting for those from Cupertino to decide, which will not happen until at least 2024, a Hong Kong youtuber has already done the work for them.
This engineer combined an iPhone motherboard with components from a Motorola Razr and a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, so that the end result is an iPhone that folds in half.

To achieve this, he had to split an iPhone X in two and then place the components. At the bottom put the motherboard and memory assembly. At the top is the battery and all the camera sensors and screen. Succeeding in satisfying the guts of the mobile is one of the big challenges in any folding model and it took this engineer several months to achieve it. The end result is a fully functional Apple mobile whose name is iPhone V.

In the demonstration video you can see that this fake model is perfectly usable. It has a flexible OLED screen, has the Apple notch and can take photos and record videos. However, to create it, some original Apple components had to be sacrificed, so it can never live up to what is expected of a real iPhone.
So it’s no surprise that the iPhone V doesn’t have that sophisticated touch that real Cupertino phones have. In fact, seen from a distance it still looks good, but when you zoom in you can easily see that the finishes are very amateurish. The youtuber explained that this is due to the fact that the original iPhone was badly damaged and he had to use a 3D printer to fix some problems.

The iPhone 15 does not fold
Only time will tell whether or not Apple dares to take the plunge and fight with Samsung. The folding iPhone is always a possibility for the future and some rumors have placed the first model of this type in 2024, while others less optimistic have pointed to 2025. In 2023 it certainly will not arrive: the iPhone 15, of which there are already started to reveal some details, it will not have any folding model.
It doesn’t have to be an iPhone though. It has also been speculated that Apple’s first foldable device is an iPad, which in this case will arrive before 2025.
