Georgia’s first rally in support of the rights of the LGBT community, scheduled for today, has been canceled after protesters in the capital, Tbilisi, burned rainbow-colored flags and attacked journalists.

Protesters also stormed the office of a campaign for the rights of the LGBT community, reported vandalism and destruction of equipment.

Journalists gathered to cover the event, according to regional media and social media posts, were pelted with stones and bottles for “propaganda of LGBT ideas”.

The organization is the Tbilisi branch of the Human Righs House Foundation, a non-governmental organization operating in Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and the Balkans.

She subsequently announced that the Pride scheduled for tonight was canceled. The premises of another co-organizer, Shame Movement, were also attacked.

Today’s gathering of a crowd in front of the partners’ offices is part of a comprehensive campaign with attacks by far-right groups against Pride and LGBT rights activists, announced in the “Twitter” parent organization.

“We are shocked by the failure of the Georgian authorities to prevent mass violence against journalists and other human rights defenders, as well as against civil society organizations,” the statement continued.

Countries such as Britain also reacted to the Georgian events.

The call for Georgians to prevent Pride came from the country’s party.

On social networks, along with scenes of violence against members of the media, photos of clergy harassing a journalist on the streets were also circulated.
