The finalists of the Runes Contest take the stage of the Celtic World

The “longest history” edition of the Ortigueira International Celtic World Festival gives way between today and Thursday, much of the prominence to the new values ​​of Celtic music. With the aim of promoting these groups, the Runas contest was born twenty-two years ago, an event that managed to survive the pandemic with the selection of the six finalist bands corresponding to the 2020 and 2021 editions, which, however, did not have the opportunity to compete. get on stage to defend their respective candidacies as the festival was not held for those two years.

Now, these six will join the three finalists of this 2022 to star in a contest from which the three winning groups will emerge, which in 2023 will perform on the main stage of Estrella Galicia as part of the international festival’s poster.

The ones chosen by the jury this year will perform today in this space: Foll on Crest (9:00 p.m.), Barea (10:00 p.m.) and JDC (11:00 p.m.). Tomorrow, with identical schedules, Germán Ruiz, Trikitrí and Groovy Celtic Band (finalists in 2021) will offer their concerts to close the new Faíscas da Pontraga, Deira and Holiday Club (2020) contest on Thursday.

And although folk music is the clear protagonist of the emblematic Mundo Celta festival, the program includes, as every year, other varied proposals that the public can enjoy. Thus, the City Council facilities can be visited every day – from Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. – the exhibitions “Gaitas, violins e other herbas; retrospective 2014-2019” and “A memoria do son, exhibitions of medieval instruments”.

The fifth edition of the Rúa Documentary Photography Obradoiro will also be held, for which it is necessary to register through the email [email protected] or by calling 652 65 93 87.

Dance workshops

One more year, the dance workshops that arouse so much interest among the public and that will take place in the facilities of the IES de Ortigueira will also be held. On Friday, between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., there will be an Asturian dance activity; dedicating the day on Saturday to Breton (from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.) and to Galician (from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.).
