the final between Nice and Nantes should be brought forward by one day

The final of the Coupe de France, which will oppose Nice to Nantes, should be brought forward by one day and be played on Saturday May 7.

Originally scheduled for Sunday May 8, the final of the Coupe de France between OGC Nice and FC Nantes at the Stade de France should be brought forward 24 hours and be played on Saturday May 7.

As put forward by Nice Matin and West France, the French Football Federation (FFF) could very quickly confirm. The decision would have been taken after the elimination of AS Monaco. Still engaged in the Europa League (the Monegasques will challenge Braga in the round of 16), the club from the Principality could have participated in the semi-final return scheduled for Thursday May 5 and would therefore have needed three days of rest before a potential final. Monaco having lost in the semi-final of the Cup against FC Nantes on Wednesday evening, the question no longer arises.

A good sign for FC Nantes?

This decision suits the two finalists, who made the request to the FFF, believing that a final on Saturday facilitates the movement of supporters and offers the assurance of a great party on Sunday for the return of the winner. The last step before the formalization consists in convincing the management of the Stade de France and the broadcasters of the competition (France Television and Eurosport).

Wink of fate: if the final was well advanced, it would be played 22 years to the day after Nantes’ last victory in the Coupe de France, on May 7, 2000 against Calais (2-1).

OGC Nice eliminated Cholet (National), PSG, OM and Versailles (National 2) to reach the final. For their part, Antoine Kombouaré’s men overcame Sochaux (Ligue 2), Vitré (National 2), Brest, Bastia (Ligue 2) and Monaco.
