The Film Week will take place from September 6 to 12 and will reward the trajectory of Mónica Randall, Luis Tosar, Javier Gutiérrez and Bárbara Lennie

The 13th Film Week ‘Ciudad de Melilla’ already has a date: it will take place from September 6 to 12. It is news that the Minister of Education, Culture, Celebrations and Equality has confirmed this morning. Elena Fernández Treviño has reported that 19 films will be screened, about seven of them Spanish.

Among the novelties of this edition is that the direction of this week will be the responsibility of Miguel Ángel Oeste, a person who relieves Moisés Salama from his position “due to a generational issue”, although he clarifies that he will continue to be part of the organization’s team.

The socialist also announces that the ‘Ciudad de Melilla’ Orchestra and Band will participate in a soundtrack concert that will take place on the opening day at the Kursaal.

As for the films that will be screened at the Kursaal Theater and the Perelló Cinema during these days, Salama has commented that the starting gun will be given with the Trueba feature film: ‘The forgetfulness that we will be’.

Other Spanish titles that the most cinephiles will be able to enjoy – and following the line that has been maintained at the Malaga festival – will be: ‘El Cover’, ‘La isla de las mentiras’, ‘Ama’ and ‘La escopeta nacional’ .

Regarding international films, it has chosen, among others, ‘Adam’, ‘Children of the Sun’, ‘Another Round’, ‘In a wild place’ and ‘Between us’. Between four and five will be screened in the original version.

In addition to the tables of actors, actresses and directors (where Luis García Berlanga will be honored), the book presentations and the LGTBI-themed round tables, there will be no shortage of awards. This edition of the José Sacristán award will go to actress Mónica Randall (‘The national shotgun’). Luis Tosar, Javier Gutiérrez and Barbara Lennie will receive the ‘Ciudad de Melilla’ award. Miguel Ángel Oeste explains it.

The counselor has detailed that, except for the screening of the films and the opening and closing gala (which will be presided over by Javier Rubial), all the activities parallel to the Film Week (round tables, book presentations, etc. ) will be held outdoors due to the pandemic. Tickets will go on sale at the end of August, at the modest price of three euros.

It insists that all security measures will be respected: the Kursaal’s capacity is set at 75 percent, the temperature will be taken at the entrance of the theater, social distancing will be guaranteed and the use of a mask will be mandatory. Remember that, as the Minister of Social Policies has said, from September the covid certificate will be required as a preventive measure against infections.
