The Facebook group tries to help people stuck at WNY

The group is called Buffalo Blizzard 2022 and has been deployed to help people since November 2014.

BUFFALO, NY – First responders can’t reach stranded people, which is why the community is stepping up to help. It’s about giving those who are stranded the basic things we all need to survive.

There is a group on Facebook called “Buffalo Blizzard 2022.’ It has also been used in previous storms.

So many people are sharing scary situations tonight: kids stuck in cars with their parents, people running out of gas, in one case first responders couldn’t reach a child hooked up to a ventilator who has since been helped thanks to the intensification of neighbors.

Adapt WNY at 273 Ridge Road in Lackawanna has also posted how to enter their building for those nearby who are stranded.

2 On Your Side has been told that a family with young children are using it as a shelter. So if you know anyone who is stuck in this area, tell them to go to this building. The door code at the entrance is 88334770.

Samantha Churley, who works at Adapt WNY, says it’s heartbreaking.

“Beyond. It really puts things into perspective. It’s Christmas. We’re so bogged down with presents, but these people are just trying to survive. Kids? It’s tearing me apart,” Churley said.

“Anything can happen. These are fatal conditions without food, water, heat. It really is the easiest thing to do to save someone.”

Carraugh Nowak lives in Snyder and extends his home to others who have no electricity and live nearby.

Her husband and some neighbors also help neighbors where they can. This includes pet care for people who are out of town.

“There are a lot of people out there who are struggling right now. I know they can’t get electricity, they can’t get to their cars, they can’t leave their houses, so I know there’s a lot going on. So I’m confident they’ll get the help they need because we live in a city that’s such a wonderful place,” Nowak said.

Even the National Guard is in town to help the people.

The telephone number to call is 716-585-NEVE.
