The extension to the cut in excise duties expires, gasoline prices rise

2022 started very badly for Italians, who were forced to pay very high prices for fuel. Petrol and diesel have skyrocketed, a real one bloodletting for the families of the Bel Paese. Fuel costs have hit figures never seen before, far exceeding two euros per liter.

A situation that has affected the entire country, and also the automotive sector, which is already suffering from the unprecedented crisis caused by Covid first, from the scarcity of raw materials and semiconductors then (with consequent delays in the delivery of new cars) and from the war in Ukraine today. For this reason, a request for help and support was made to the Government which, as we know, has finally decided to approve the cut of the much-hated excise duties on petrol in Italy. In recent days, we have also witnessed the new decision regarding the decision of the Executive.

The extension to the cut in excise duties

The Government has decided to extend the excise duty cut measure. Daniele Franco, Minister of Economy in Italy, announced – on the occasion of the press conference convened after the approval of the DEF – the extension of the cut decision up to a new term, on 2 May (and no longer on 22 April). A decision that was taken taking into account the war in Ukraine, which seems to have no end, and the general situation at the international level. We are therefore still close to the end of these concessions that the State has granted us and, for this reason, Italians are starting to tremble, given that prices could rise frighteningly.

April highs

Already yesterday we witnessed the first increases by the companies on the price of petrol and diesel, even if the picture of the prices at the pump at the moment is still quite “serene” for Italians. IP, Q8 and Tamoil – in particular – are the companies that intervened last weekend with 2 cent increases on diesel and petrol. As for the prices of products in the Mediterranean, the markets were closed for Easter and therefore, at the moment, there is nothing to report.

We can take into consideration the data processed by Quotidiano Energia on the information given by the managers to the Mise Price Observatory (updated at 8 am on 18 April); from monitoring on the national network it appears that the national average price charged for petrol in self-service mode went to 1,766 euros / liter (previously 1,767), with the different brands ranging from 1,752 to 1,789 euros / liter (no logo 1,756). As far as diesel is concerned, there is already a slight increase for self refueling, which goes from 1,759 to 1,763 euros / liter, with companies between 1,752 and 1,774 euros / liter (no logo 1,757).

Let’s see instead the prices of the service, petrol reaches an average of 1.905 euros / liter, therefore slightly down, given that the previous value was 1.911. The colored plants have prices between 1,837 and 1,994 euros / liter (no logo 1,811). The diesel reaches 1.903 euros / liter, also in this case slightly down, against the previous 1.904. Petrol stations charge prices between 1,857 and 1,979 euros / liter (no logo 1,810). LPG goes from 0.847 to 0.870 euros / liter (no logo 0.854) and methane seems to be on the rise, between 2.126 and 2.347 (no logo 2.096).
