The Exceptional Journey of Artists with Disabilities: Overcoming Challenges, Inspiring Inclusion, and Uniting Communities

The question of the change of look imposed itself automatically from the first performances. The story goes back to 2004. Originally Marie-Pascale Venambre of the Christian Doctrine Sisters of Bagneux worked with high school students. The idea of involving people with disabilities has gained ground for Les Amis du MRJC. The success of the two theatrical performances presented each year by these artists with disabilities exceeds expectations. Surpassing oneself, social inclusion, the challenge was not easy because it was necessary to overcome fears, anxieties, prejudices.

Today there are about fifteen participants who during the year rehearse twice a month in Bagneux to prepare for the show which will be presented on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 November at the Colombey-les-Belles multipurpose hall. Manu, David, Cédric and all the budding artists, despite all the difficulties they had at the start sometimes verbalizing or simply gaining confidence, never thought they would arouse so many emotions and enthusiasm by going up on stage.

The project supported by a lot of elected officials from the sector, Mgr Papin even came to greet the artists last year, has the merit of bringing together people from different specialized structures: foyers le Toulois, les Érables in Liverdun, the Esat d ‘Allamps or the hearth of Diarville. On stage they tell stories, depict subjects from their daily lives, they question the question of differences or indifference, above all they advocate a happier and more united world. Through the gestures, the dance, the work of the costumes, everyone was able to find their place. The incredible progress, the confidence acquired year after year is the work of the volunteer supervisors, Marie-Pascale, Bernard, Alcine, Gwen. Go encourage them on stage, you will be surprised by the talent, the human warmth, and the importance of this beautiful project.
