the epidemic is on the rise again among the elderly

In Nouvelle-Aquitaine, the figures are always “disturbing” said the director of the ARS this week. Public Health France estimates this Friday that “Sars-CoV-2 circulation remains active and continues in the region.” If the number of new cases tends to stabilize in week 49 (that of November 30 to December 6), the incidence rate is slightly increasing (+ 4% compared to the previous week with 85.2 cases per 100,000 inhabitants ). An increase that can be observed “particularly in the elderly, mainly among those aged 75 and over (+ 11%) “, that we know more at risk of developing serious forms of Covid-19.“In the other age groups, the incidence rate has remained relatively stable”, Still considers Public Health France.

On the territory, in detail, the reality of the figures is very different. The incidence rate makes the big difference between the departments: from 21 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants (as of December 7, over seven rolling days) in Charente-Maritime, we go to 148 in the Landes. In Charente-Maritime, the decline continues. While the increase is visible in Charente, Lot-et-Garonne, Landes, Deux-Sèvres and Haute-Vienne. And the new cases which are recorded in these departments also concern people under 65 years old.

As for hospitalizations, we have observed relative stability since the beginning of December. Here again, the decline seems to have marked time. There were 1338 people hospitalized in the region this Thursday, including 156 in intensive care. Hospitals are always particularly busy with Gironde, Pyrénées-Atlantiques and Haute-Vienne.

133 deaths recorded in one week

As of December 10, 1,444 electronic death certificates had been transmitted since the start of the epidemic, 133 more than the previous week (as of December 3). In just over half of the cases, it was a man. In details, 40 deaths occurred in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, 31 in Gironde, 15 in Haute-Vienne, 9 in Vienne, 8 in Deux-Sèvres and Landes, 4 in Dordogne, 3 in Charente and Charente-Maritime, and one in Corrèze and Creuse. Since the start of the epidemic in March, 95 people under the age of 65 have died in New Aquitaine from Covid-19.
