The mayor of Grenoble Eric Piolle was taken into custody this Tuesday morning at 8:30 am, indicates The Dauphiné Libéré. He was questioned by the financial brigade of the PJ of Valence in the Drôme within the framework of an investigation into the conditions of attribution of a public event, the Fête des Tuiles, to an association by the city of Grenoble.
An investigation for favoritism, relocated from Grenoble to Valence, has been open since spring 2018 in this case following a report from the Regional Chamber of Accounts. Staff from the city of Grenoble have already been heard, says France 3 Alps.
A public market without competition
Investigators are trying to find out whether the organization of the Fête des Tuiles at the Fusées association in 2015 and 2016 was carried out in accordance with the rules. The city of Grenoble is criticized for not having done any advertising or competition, as the law would require, explains The Dauphiné Libéré. For its part, the municipality of Grenoble considers that a competition was not necessary for this type of service. The amount of public contracts amounted to € 123,000 in 2015 and € 128,000 in 2016.
The Tile Festival is a major festive event, created by Eric Piolle in 2015, which celebrates Grenoble associations on the main artery of the capital of the Alps.
Interviewed in 2018, Eric Piolle explained that he was not familiar with the Fusées association which had obtained the public contract. However, the right-wing opposition had found a document which indicated that Eric Piolle’s campaign team had paid the association to stick electoral posters during the campaign for the municipal elections of 2014.
