“The End of Compulsory Vaccination for Entering the USA: Changes Coming in May 2023”

Current requirements for entering the USA

• Since the reopening of the American borders on November 8, 2021foreign visitors must be vaccinated against Covid-19. In practice, you must have received at least 2 doses of a vaccine against Covid-19. And the second injection must have been performed at least 14 days before your arrival in the United States. • The United States therefore remains one of the last countries in the world to maintain the obligation of vaccination against Covid-19 for non-residents, with Angola, Ghana, Liberia, Iran, Azerbaijan, Bhutan and Brunei. See the official list updated by theWorld Health Organization. But things should eventually change!

The end of the compulsory vaccine is on the way

• First stage of the return to normal: on April 10, 2023, the American authorities announced the end of the “national state of emergency”. An exceptional measure adopted in January 2020 by the Trump administration to deal with the crisis.
• The second stage is scheduled for May 11, 2023 with the end of the “state of health emergency”. On this date, the US government will stop funding the huge fund dedicated to testing and free vaccination.
• The end of the state of health emergency must also lead to the lifting of the obligation to vaccinate against Covid-19 for non-residents. The law known as “HR 185” putting an end to this obligation was also adopted on February 8, 2023 by the House of Representatives. The law is available on the US Congress website.
• HR 185 must now be passed by the Senate and then ratified by President Joe Biden before coming into force. I’US Travel Association, the American association of tourism professionals, is very optimistic about its coming into force soon.
