Nikon, nebo Canon?!

The age-old dispute between photographers will be cracked by the first named. According to the Nikkei portal Nikon will no longer develop a new generation of this type of camera. After more than half a century, one technological era that symbolized the technological rise of Japan is coming to an end.

Nikkei cites smartphone pressure as the main reason. Even in 2015, the number of SLR cameras delivered to retailers worldwide exceeded twenty million, last year the number stopped below five million. Nikon is moving its development capacities to mirrorless cameras, which have grown from 7 million to more than 15 million units in the same period. Nikon’s competitive advantage should be more functions compared to cameras in mobile phones.

In June 2020, Nikon presented the last D6 SLR model to date, and since then it has not released any news. SLR production will nevertheless continue. Nikon is the second largest producer of this type of camera after Canon. Nikon started selling SLR cameras in 1959.
