The end. Here is the price of the lamb at Easter

We will eat lamb at a record high price on Easter and St. George’s Day. Although the state fund “Agriculture” will allocate BGN 1 million to the slaughterhouses, this will not affect the pocket of the Bulgarian. According to sheep breeders and traders from the Veliko Tarnovo region, a kilo of lamb this spring will exceed BGN 20, Bulgaria ON AIR writes.

There are 200 sheep and 180 lambs in the flock of Stoyan Hristov in Debelets. Years ago there were 10 farms in the area, but now his is the only one. Sheep farmers are massively liquidating their flocks because of twice the cost of fodder, rising electricity prices and inflation.

“Slaughterhouses are currently subsidizing them with BGN 10 per slaughtered lamb and not to buy less than BGN 7.50. In my opinion, this measure is very inadequate and will not affect the lamb in the trade network.

The state had to subsidize the farmers, not the slaughterhouses, by taking part of the price at which the slaughterhouse buys the lamb. If the state had given a subsidy of BGN 2 to the owner, then the slaughterhouse would have put them on the market much cheaper, “Hristov said.

Traders consider the measure too late.

Due to inflation and increased costs, Bulgarian lamb will rise by nearly 30%.

“Given that the costs have doubled, last year we sold the lambs at BGN 7 live weight, this year – at BGN 10,” Hristov said.

“We expect a big rise. Its price will be 20-30% higher than last year,” Minchev stressed.
