The embassy in Kabul is temporarily closed, the agenda will be taken over by the embassy in Pakistan

According to the ministry, the embassy building was secured so that it could not be misused, including property or data. Jiří Baloun, who will work from the Prague headquarters, remains the Czech Ambassador to Afghanistan.

“This is crucial for further communication with partners in the region and the future direction of our diplomatic relations with Afghanistan,” said Foreign Minister Jakub Kulhánek (CSSD).

Baloun had previously said that when leaving the embassy, he had to take important equipment with the soldiers, including a cash register, recording devices, memory disks or parts of devices. Other equipment had to be destroyed.

He also brought the flags of the Czech Republic, the EU, NATO and Afghanistan, the Czech coat of arms and a plaque marking the embassy building from Kabul.

According to Kulhánek, the security situation in the region remains exacerbated and will also be addressed by the foreign ministers of the European Union member states at an informal meeting in Brdo pri Kranju, Slovenia, which will take place on Thursday and Friday.

“Both the EU and NATO are now facing a debate on the future shape and set-up of relations with Afghanistan, including access to a new government if it is formed,” Kulhanek added.

After the Taliban controlled most of Afghanistan, the Czech Republic withdrew 195 people from the country in three flights last week.

Kulhánek said on Friday that the Czechia had already evacuated all local interpreters and collaborators selected by the army and diplomacy.

152 out of 169 Afghans who brought flights applied for international protection, ie asylum or subsidiary protection. Others have a different form of residence in the Czech Republic, the Ministry of the Interior told ČTK today.
