The electricity bill of the second home weighs more due to taxes and levies. From a survey carried out, electricity tariffs for second homes are among the most expensive in Europe.
Why is there a greater burden? The share that weighs more is that referred to the system charges that are eaten two thirds of the cake. The energy share is only a small part.
How to cut costs?
The simplest solution to paying a lower second home electricity bill is to take out a resident contract. But this solution is feasible only in the case in which the residence is moved to that house which from a second home becomes habitual residence. The choice of resident or non-resident is made at the time of signing the contract with the electricity supply company. In front of this crossroads there are the owners of houses in the mountains or by the sea and many do not exclude choosing houses as their habitual residence for obvious reasons of saving.
The difference in costs between first and second home
Electricity bills go up by about 25% more when you sign a non-resident contract. Suppliers can do very little, so it is useless to compare the prices of the various electricity companies.
What has changed for three years
A reform has taken place since 2017, the old rates have been abolished and there is a single TD rate with an increase in costs related to fixed rates. Consumption limited in a few months a year, as in the case of second homes, is felt more by the incidence of the fixed quota.
