The information was given by the Prime Minister on Thursday, May 4, during his presentation of the results of his action during the first 100 days at the head of the government.

Regarding certain doubts about the date of the elections in Gabon, Prime Minister Alain-Claude Bilie-By-Nze recalled that under the Constitution, the mandate of the President of the Republic begins on the day of his swearing-in and ends seven years after that date. Which means that, ” President Ali Bongo Ondimba having been sworn in on September 27, the presidential election must be held between July 27 and August 27, 2023 “, mentioned the minister.

As demonstrated by article 11 of the constitution which provides that ” the election of the President of the Republic takes place one (1) month at least and two (2) months at most before the expiration of the mandate of the President in office« .

The latter nevertheless recalled that the setting of a precise date for the election (within the constitutional deadlines) was an exclusive prerogative, not of the government, but of the Gabonese Election Center (CGE).
