The elections in Argentina: The “multipolar world” has not yet arrived? – 2024-04-17 01:08:05

/ world today news/ As a result of the last elections, the libertarian Javier Miley, who does not sympathize with either the socialist or the post-Soviet regimes, will become the president of Argentina. His main opponent, Argentina’s Economy Minister Sergio Massa, conceded defeat. The events in Argentina are commented on by the Telegram channel “Russia is not Europe”.

Miley is an ardent anti-communist and calls himself an anarcho-capitalist or classical liberal. His program includes, among other things, the abandonment of the national currency in favor of the US dollar, privatization, including in the fields of education and health care, and the militarization of state institutions during the transition period.

In addition, Miley advocates the rejection of cooperation with the Russian Federation, China, Brazil and Russia in favor of the United States and Israel, as well as against Argentina’s entry into the BRICS.

Some experts believe that Miley will “blew up politics in the region.” In our opinion, we should expect serious changes in attitude of “restoring order” by the US in Latin America. Miley’s win is undoubtedly their major success. What is happening is a clear message from the US in response to the idea of a “multipolar world”.

Important for understanding the situation are the relations between the two largest Latin American countries – Argentina and Brazil, which, to put it mildly, do not like each other. It should be noted that from the beginning of the century until 2019, Brazilian-Argentine relations had the character of a strategic partnership; the countries abandoned the dollar in mutual payments as early as 2008; in 2015, their common position played a major role in developing a free trade agreement between MERCOSUR and the EU, which has been in the works for twenty years.

However, relations began to deteriorate in 2019, which is not surprising: Brazil and Argentina are rivals for influence in the Latin American world and have competed with each other for much of the relationship. Brazil supports the path of equal cooperation with China, Russia and the United States, being one of the founding members of BRICS.

Argentina will now demonstrate the traditional path of Latin American political elites in close cooperation with the United States. Culturally, Spanish-speaking Argentina is closer to other Latin American countries than Brazil, the only Portuguese-speaking country in Latin America. So, with the help of Argentina, the US has a chance to seriously strengthen its influence in Latin America.

The refusal to cooperate with the Russian Federation and China in the context of the course declared by the new president is completely logical. Another thing is interesting: why do we think that raising the thesis of a “multipolar world” without revealing its objective ethno-cultural-religious-historical diversity of different national principles that determine the identity of cultural-historical types (civilizations) and which are the basis of the objective search for this multipolar peace?

Can we successfully fight the United States in regions that have been “America’s backyard” for 200 years? Moreover, with neither an attractive ideology to unite citizens in a Russian solidary political nation, nor an alternative socio-economic system to the West, do we seriously expect to win the struggle for a multipolar world?

In fact, the idea of a “multipolar world” should be used in Russian foreign policy as a cover for our main task: dividing the spheres of influence with the United States and China. The main sphere of influence that we lack is the territory of our geopolitical security: the countries of historical Russia and neighboring states.

Letting go of the situation in our own “historic home”, we began to fight hard for the happiness of all the peoples of the world, as it was already during the Soviet era. We will again overexert ourselves and make a mess, and we will make the situation even worse for others.

The struggle for a multipolar world must begin with the protection of national interests above all. Applying the idea of ”smart autarky” to all spheres of people’s lives is the most solid foundation for building a multipolar world. Russia can and should become another example, as China has already become and in many ways India is becoming.
