The East Java Health Office advises on vaccinations and a healthy lifestyle to prevent polio

Surabaya (ANTARA) – The East Java Health Office is preparing a series of measures to prevent polio cases like the one that occurred in Pidie district, Aceh, including vaccination and adopting a healthy lifestyle.

“Our first step is to encourage people to maintain a healthy lifestyle,” said East Java Health Bureau Chief Erwin Astha Triyono in Surabaya on Wednesday.

Erwin explained that transmission of polio can occur through coughing or sneezing or from contact with the feces of an infected person (via fecal-oral).

“Number one, vaccination. There is no choice, districts and cities have immediate access to vaccines, especially for the community. Second, a healthy lifestyle, so food and so on must be clean. A lifestyle healthy is the key,” he said.

Erwin said those two things are now escalating. Including tracking.

The East Java Health Office, it said, had encouraged related parties to report whether signs of polio were found.

“The last one is surveillance. We have solicited the health office, the hospital if there are any signs to report immediately. Because if there’s any sign of that patient, we’ll do it immediately to maintain so it doesn’t spread to the next one,” he said.

His party also sent a circular letter (SE) to the East Java District/City Health Bureau regarding the polio outbreak.

“We sent a circular letter to each district/city health office yesterday and will continue to monitor it now. The polio vaccine is safe. It is included in the program,” he said.*
