“The Dutch Housing Market: Challenges for International Students and Universities”

Once upon a time there was a student from Switzerland who went to study in the Netherlands. He couldn’t find a room and so he went back and forth by plane every week. That is how absurd the Dutch housing market is at the moment. Nevertheless, Dutch universities still want to grow by bringing international students to the Netherlands. But where will they live? Can universities still grow in these times of scarcity?

Reporter Huub Floor researched the role of universities in the dire situation faced by students who (want to) live in rooms. Huub joins Esmee Dirks and Benjamin de Bruijn in this Pointer Talk. In this episode, Benjamin comes up with a solution in the section ‘prosperous or underprivileged?’. Professor of Housing Systems at TU Delft Peter Boelhouwer responds.
