The DrieMaasStede care complex in Schiedam is locked for visitors after a corona outbreak

In the DrieMaasStede care complex, some fifty residents were tested positive for corona in the past week. Three residents of the Schiedam care and nursing home have since died of the virus. The management has decided not to allow any more visitors into the complex for the time being. 165 elderly people live in the care complex.

Only residents in the terminal phase may still receive visitors, in a separate wing of the building on Voorberghlaan. Residents infected with the virus are taken to a special cohort ward in a rehabilitation center in Vlaardingen.

Twelve care employees of DrieMaasStede have also been tested, but they are still waiting for the results. “Until their results are in and we can see how the virus develops further, we have decided to keep all residential groups in a preventive quarantine,” says spokesman Els Barendrecht of Argos Zorggroep.

It is the first time that DrieMaasStede has had to deal with an outbreak on this scale. The measures apply provisionally until 1 February.
