Bruno Rodriguez retired from football in 2005, but has since struggled with chronic pain that resulted, among other things, from from years of effort on the pitch. The former footballer was forced to undergo major surgery. In order for his suffering to end, his leg had to be amputated.

The French professional footballers’ union (UNFP) has confirmed that the 49-year-old had one leg amputated to get rid of the pain once and for all. “UNFP transfers strength and courage to Bruno Rodriguez, who, in connection with his football career, had to resort to the amputation of his leg due to constant suffering” we read in the organization’s statement.

The situation on his official Twitter profile was also commented on by his former club Paris Saint-Germain, sending his wishes to the player. In addition, he was invited to return to the Parc des Princes stadium as soon as he could.

Bruno Rodriguez played for PSG in 18 matches in the 1999/2000 season, scoring eight goals. The Frenchman started his football career in 1989 at AS Monaco, with Clermont Foot being his last club.
