The disease that killed Stephen Hawking took the life of Victoria Georgieva’s father

For each person, parents are the closest people, occupying a special place in his heart, so their loss is accompanied by pain, incomparable to any other, leaving behind an open wound that will never be completely healed. Unfortunately, hours ago Victoria Georgieva, who ranked our country eleventh in the Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam in 2021, had to face grief at home because her father Peter left this world. The sad news was shared by the singer herself, using her personal profile on the social network, where she wrote only: “Fly, dear dad …”, announcing his death.

Hours ago, she changed the profile picture in her account, uploading their shared archive frame, in which she stands in his arms like a little girl, giving him a kiss. In addition, paying tribute to him, she shared a series of images taken in different years, such as 24-hour stories on the platform.

The singer’s father lost his battle with the incurable disease with which he was diagnosed last year. It is ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) – a progressive degeneration of motor neurons, leading to muscle atrophy, paralysis and loss of mind, from which astrophysicist Stephen Hawking also suffered.

For the first time, Victoria publicly shared about the ordeal her family went through in April last year, when she gave an emotional TV interview in which she explained more with tears about the difficult moments they are going through.

“My year started very well, but then several events followed that turned my life around. The Eurovision Song Contest was canceled, and a few months later my father was diagnosed with a very rare disease – amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. It was like a bolt from the blue heaven, because we didn’t expect it, I love my family very much and I always want to help them as much as I can, but it’s hard when you see your loved ones getting worse with each passing day and you can’t help them because there is simply no cure. “she said then.

In fact, her personal story is at the heart of the message embedded in the music video for her song “Growing Up is Getting Old”, which is dedicated to the priceless moments spent with people who occupy a special place in our hearts.
