The director of the Fondation de Nant will lead the Riviera-Chablais Hospital

Christian Moeckli is the new Director General of the Riviera-Chablais Hospital (HRC). He will take up his post by next summer. Last May, in the midst of a financial storm, Pascal Rubin threw in the towel. Pierre-François Leyvraz, retired director of the CHUV, has been acting since then.

Christian Moeckli, 55, was unanimously appointed after a rigorous and in-depth selection process, the Governing Board announced on Wednesday. Some 80 applications were examined.

The future director of the HRC is currently heading the Fondation de Nant, a psychiatric care institution in eastern Vaud. He has the benefit of a “rich career as a senior executive in parastatal institutions” and has “an intimate knowledge of the medical-nursing environment,” said a press release.

A recovery to be carried out

Christian Moeckli, who has lived in the region for more than 15 years, will be responsible for continuing the financial recovery of the intercantonal hospital. In August, audits identified weaknesses in the management of the finances and day-to-day affairs of the HRC.

A rescue plan of 125 million francs over fifteen years must soon be submitted for approval to the Great Councils of Vaud and Valais. The return to balanced accounts is scheduled for 2026.
