Despite the reopening, the fitness rooms in Dijon (Côte-d’Or) continue to suffer from the health crisis. Most of them are faced with a drop in the number of their customers, especially since the introduction of the health pass. Some are threatened with closure.
The blues of the gyms. In Dijon (Côte-d’Or), the fitness clubs were able to reopen during the month of June. But the sanitary conditions imposed and the introduction of the vaccination pass have cooled many customers.
Some managers have no choice, like Christophe Sanchez, manager of the Freestyle fitness rooms. At the end of August, it will close one of the two sites it has. “We no longer have the capacity to open two structures simultaneously. We have to make choices”, he regrets.
25 to 50% fewer customers
Since the start of the health crisis in February 2020, Christophe Sanchez has lost nearly a third of his clientele. And the business manager is not the only one to suffer the consequences of the pandemic in the sports sector. “Many centers have lost on average between 25 and 50% of their clientele, he believes. It is mission impossible for a structure that wants to reopen to offer the same services, the same services with a reduced clientele “.

Especially since the sports halls were once again able to welcome customers from June, at the peak of activity. “It’s the worst quarter of the year”breathes Christophe Sanchez.
The health pass, a constraint for some members
On the Klube side in Dijon, we are trying to adapt as best we can, in particular to the health pass. Regular and vaccinated customers no longer need to present their QR Code. They have the center strap which allows them to move almost as before. Only newcomers must comply with a verification by the employees of the room. The device is explained in the publication below.
However, the economic reality is also worrying for managers who have observed the suspension of 200 subscriptions, or 20% of members, since July 21, the date of entry into force of the health pass. “A part of the people were not ready, not vaccinated and another does not want to be vaccinated, feels a bit flirtatious and does not want to come in these conditions. I think that a part will come back, we hope in any case “, says Loïc Lebris, director of Klube.
The start of the September school year will be a fundamental step for fitness companies whose younger audiences are being vaccinated. But by 2022, a third of cinemas could go out of business in France.
