In its situation report sent to the media on Tuesday afternoon, the Regional Health Agency (ARS) indicated that 12 clusters were currently monitored in New Aquitaine. The list reported an epidemic focus in Pau, where five people from an “extended family” circle had tested positive.
When contacted, the ARS actually told us that the tests had been carried out by the Pau hospital center but that the samples “very likely” came from Ossès, in the Basque Country, where two cases (or even three according to local sources) have been confirmed within a troupe of dancers, actors and musicians.
Vigilance in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques
Faced with the influx of tourists, the laboratories and hospitals of the Basque Country cannot alone ensure the analyzes of the tests carried out en masse. Many samples are therefore sent to Béarn, to the Bio Pyrénées laboratory or to the Pau hospital. Thus, if they have been officially attached to the Béarn prefecture, these cases are indeed “Basque” and “there is no cluster in Pau”, assures the ARS.
This obviously does not prevent vigilance : the ARS stresses that the incidence rate, that is to say the number of positive cases linked to the appearance of epidemic foci, is increasing in New Aquitaine during the week of August 3 to 9. The Gironde remains classified in moderate vulnerability and the other departments are in limited vulnerability with vigilance in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques and in the Lot-et-Garonne
