The Deputy Governor of DKI Opens His Voice on Allegations of Anies being prevented from advancing to 2024

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta, Ahmad Riza Patria defend Anies Baswedan about his colleague’s suspicions that he was prevented from running again in his second term in charge of the capital city.

Riza was efficient in speaking when asked about the accusation. According to him, the implementation of the regional elections, especially the presidential election, is still quite far away until 2024. He asks all parties to respect every democratic process, and reduce the hustle and bustle of the political world.

“So I don’t want to comment on political issues, let alone the regional election, let alone the presidential election, moreover, it’s still far, 2024,” Riza said in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta as quoted Detik.com, Saturday (9/10).

The Gerindra Party politician regretted the narrative of the parties who were fiercely fighting over the presidential election nomination. In fact, President Joko Widodo has recently been sworn in for a second term.

He asked all parties to support Jokowi, who has also supported the program in DKI Jakarta.

“Let’s work, support Pak Jokowi with his various policies. The central government supports Pak Anies in Jakarta, builds Jakarta. Let’s support leaders throughout Indonesia,” he said.

This was conveyed by Riza in response to the statement by the Chairman of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Prasetio Edi Marsudi, who asked Anies and his supporters to stop making narratives as if the 2024 simultaneous elections were deliberately made to thwart Anies.

According to Pras, as he is affectionately known, the implementation of the 2024 simultaneous elections is the mandate of Law Number 10 of 2016 which was passed before Anies became governor.

For information, referring to the law, Anies will end his term as governor in 2022. Because the new regional elections will be held in 2024 along with the legislative and presidential elections. To fill the vacant positions left, the government will appoint a temporary acting.

Even so, Anies also briefly revealed his plans after stepping down as governor in 2022. He admitted, originally he was going to do a campaign in the last year of his administration in DKI. However, he was forced to abandon the intention because the new elections will be held two years later.

Anies himself was inaugurated as the Governor of DKI Jakarta on October 16, 2017. This means that Anies’ 5-year term will be completed in October 2022.

“In the past, the plan was for the last year to start the campaign, apparently there will be no elections next year. So that’s it, we will continue to work, there will be no campaign next year,” said Anies at the DPP PAN national workshop in Bali, Monday (4/10).
