Two Tawergha men living in camps in the Qararat al-Qatf area died, and a third was transferred to the Tripoli Medical Center in serious condition due to the extremely low temperatures in the area.

A member of the media committee for the Tawergha refugees in Qarat al-Qatf, Muhammad Radwan, told Bawabat al-Wasat on Monday, “We recorded two deaths, the first of a person named (Al-Shaali), who was 60 years old, and (Baraka), who was 53 years old, due to high blood pressure.”

He added: “There is a third case of Tawerghan refugees who was transferred to Tripoli Medical Center, suffering from high blood pressure and a stroke due to the low temperatures witnessed in the Qararat al-Qatf area these days.”

Dozens of displaced families from the town of Tawergha are still stuck in the open air between the areas from which they returned and their town, after the crossing points to the town were closed to them.

The reconciliation agreement between Misrata and Tawergha has been facing obstacles since last week, after the arrival of dozens of displaced Tawergha families to their town was hindered. Due to the demand of parties from Misrata to postpone the return of the people until reaching “an objective, realistic and fair treatment of this extremely sensitive issue.”

This comes about seventeen months after the President of the Presidential Council of the Government of National Accord, Fayez al-Sarraj, ratified the reconciliation agreement between representatives of the municipal councils of Misrata and the local councils of Tawergha in Tunisia on August 31, 2016, under international auspices.
