The DANCON March in Latvia: An Endurance Challenge for NATO Soldiers from 13 Countries

The historic “DANCON March” or Danish contingent march is an approximately 25.5 km long endurance march in which the participants have to cover the distance with a 10 kg backpack in eight hours. The march will start on April 23 at 9.00, but will end at 17.00

“DANCON March” will take place in Latvia for the third time. The first march took place 50 years ago in Cyprus. During these 50 years, the march has taken place in 15 countries, and with it taking place in Ādaži, Latvia has become the 16th country.

On April 23, approximately 850 participants from 13 NATO countries will participate in the march. Entry fee for the walk is a donation. A special commemorative medal is made for each “DANCON March” march. Soldiers of the national armed forces have participated in such a march while on duty in Kosovo.

In response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, soldiers and technical units of the 1st Brigade of the Royal Danish Armed Forces have been staying in Latvia since the spring of 2022. These soldiers are part of the Mechanized Infantry Brigade of the Ground Forces, participating in joint exercises with the National Armed Forces and units of other allied countries.

The organizers of the march call on the residents of Ādaži district not to worry, seeing the movement of soldiers of Latvia and allied countries in the territory of Ādaži district.
