The damage after the tornado is huge, with people receiving up to five million to rebuild housing

At an extraordinary session on Friday, the government approved the free provision of fuel for rescuers who have been intervening in devastated villages since Thursday evening. Labor offices already handle extraordinary benefits for people in municipalities, they can get up to 57,900 crowns. The regions also promised to help. People and companies have already sent tens of millions of crowns to help municipalities.

Estimates of the amount of damages from insurance companies are calculated in the hundreds of millions of crowns. Damage after extreme storms will reach a total of 750 million crowns for the whole of the Czechia, Generali Česká pojišťovna estimated. The most affected are Hodonín and Břeclav, but the damage is spread across the country. As of 3 pm, the cooperative recorded 1,715 claims for CZK 294 million. Hail, storms and local floods caused the most damage. Dozens or hundreds of claims are also registered by other insurance companies.

The Ministry of Regional Development will release 420 million crowns to help municipalities with the restoration of assets. At the same time, the state will offer people up to five million crowns for the restoration of destroyed housing, of which two million as a subsidy and three million as a soft loan for 30 years.

According to the Minister of Finance Alena Schillerová (for YES), the financial administration should provide relief to injured entrepreneurs from the affected areas in the form of tax deferral or remission of road tax advances. The Ministry of the Environment will provide hundreds of millions of crowns, for example, for repairs of wastewater treatment plants or for planting trees and greenery, said Minister Richard Brabec (YES).

This morning, the labor offices received 13 applications for an extraordinary benefit from people from damaged municipalities in southern Moravia. So far, they have paid out about 513,000 crowns. People can get up to fifteen times the subsistence level, ie a total of 57,900 crowns. They can also apply for money at the employment offices in Hodonín and Břeclav on Saturdays and Sundays from 08:00 to 16:00.

Two-member mobile teams began handling extraordinary benefits to people directly in the affected communities this morning. After assessing their situation, the money was paid to the applicants in cash on the spot.

At the EU summit, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (YES) asked the heads of institutions for help for South Moravia. The Czechia can receive assistance from the EU Solidarity Fund, which countries use in cases of natural disasters. There is about a billion euros in it, Babiš said today. The application must be completed within ten days and the necessary documents must be provided, which will then be assessed by the European Council and the European Parliament.

Most regions are also ready to provide financial assistance to municipalities affected by the tornado. The state can use fire brigades of all regions. “It is absolutely necessary that the mayors who deal with debris removal there are sure that when they commission a job, they must have enough funds for it. We will be ready to help, we need to agree where the help should go,” said the head of the Association of Regions Martin Kuba (ODS).

Collections are being set up all over the country to help storm-stricken villages in Moravia, and tens of millions of crowns have been raised on donor accounts. For example, the collection of the Via Foundation raised more than 100 million crowns in less than 24 hours.
