With an average of 546 deaths recorded per day last week, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the daily number of deaths from Covid-19 in the United States is at the lowest since March 2020 , that is to say when the epidemic spread in the country, announced Tuesday, May 18, the health authorities.

“The last time our seven-day average was that low was in March 2020; in short, when the pandemic started in a large part of the United States, said CDC director Rochelle Walensky during a press briefing.

In addition, the number of cases recorded on Monday, around 17,700, is the lowest since June, she added. “Vaccines have led to a dramatic decline in cases, hospitalizations and deaths”, welcomed Andy Slavitt, White House adviser on the fight against Covid-19.

“Winning the war against the virus”

“For the first time since the pandemic began, cases are down in all fifty states. We are winning the war against the virus ”Mr. Slavitt said.
