The CSO provided data on the labor market. Salaries were surprised

From 2013, employment in Poland only increased (comparing year-to-year data). This trend reversed in April and in May the problem deepened. In June, however, employment is still lower than a year ago, but compared to May it remained at a similar level, and even slightly increased – according to the latest CSO data.

Comparing with June last year, the number of people working in medium and large companies (with over 9 employees) decreased by 3.3 percent. However, this is a better result than forecasted by economists who expected a decline of 3.9 percent.

It is worth recalling that even in 2019 the rate of employment of new employees reached 3 percent. per year, and at the peak of 2017 it was about 4.5 percent Now the statistics are falling quite quickly.

Banks raise fees. “Let’s not ignore letters and emails, it’s important”

How does this translate into specific numbers? The average employment in the enterprise sector increased in June compared to May by 12 thousand. posts. Let us remind you that in May it fell by 85,000 and in April by as much as 153,000.

“In June 2020, as in the previous month, a further reduction of employment was observed in some entities (non-extension of term contracts and termination of employment contracts)” – the Central Statistical Office reads.

“However, due to restoring pre-pandemic full-time jobs and resuming admissions, there was a slight increase in average employment in the enterprise sector by 0.2 per cent compared to May this year, when there was a visible drop of 1.4 per cent. a similar decline last year continued, which amounted to 3.3 percent. ” – indicates the Central Statistical Office.

Salaries in June

The Central Statistical Office data shows that the average salary in medium and large companies is PLN 5,286 gross. That’s exactly 3.6 percent. higher amount than in June 2019. This is a big surprise, because economists expected an increase of 1.5 percent.

It is worth noting that the salary in June was equal to the level from April, when it amounted to PLN 5,285. However, this year’s records are still far away. In March, average earnings were close to 5.5 thousand. PLN gross, and in record-breaking December 2019 they exceeded 5.6 thousand PLN gross.

In June, the annual wage growth rate was faster than in previous months. Let us remind you that in May it amounted to 1.2 percent and in April 1.9 percent. Freezing the economy and slowly returning to normalcy forced companies to reduce not only jobs but also the size of jobs. On the one hand, the effect is lower wages and the extinguishing of strong pressure before the epidemic on increases. In recent years, the norm was an annual pay rise of 6-8 percent.

The amounts provided by the CSO are, of course, gross remuneration. Kowalski’s statistical account is affected by much less money. In June, an employee employed under an employment contract comes out with official rates of around 3,800 PLN.

720 PLN – that’s how much they eat ZUS (pension, disability, sickness) contributions. Another PLN 410 goes from the gross amount to the National Health Fund and PLN 336 for the income tax advance.

It should be remembered that the CSO data includes only large and medium-sized companies. Instead, those with fewer than ten employees are rejected. In addition, the Central Statistical Office does not count employees employed on a mandate or specific task, who are often less well paid.
