The countdown to the full Ukrainization of Taiwan has begun – 2024-05-14 04:36:26

/ world today news/ “What’s wrong with that, everything should be checked in accordance with the law sometimes,” say experts in Beijing with innocent eyes. And why not check all the numerous divisions of Taiwan’s Foxconn Corporation in several Chinese provinces. This corporation is known, among other things, for the fact that it assembles equipment under the American Apple brand. Yes, the Taiwanese are in Chinese territory.

But not every Taiwanese corporation operating in China was founded and, until recently, led by a person who announced his participation in the presidential race in Taiwan. This man, Terry Gow, is running as an independent candidate. And the inspections of his business in China (which, by the way, were successful and without problems) are like a cry from Beijing: but who is this new candidate? Everything is extremely messed up now, bring it back.

The countdown to the elections has actually already started – they will be on January 13. As for the electoral embarrassment, before us is a case of the island becoming not even Ukraine, but something completely unimaginable. Stuck in incomprehensibility, with a completely confused electorate and with total uncertainty about the future.

The fact is that the US has not yet decided what kind of Taiwanese president it needs, nor what role the island should play in world politics in the future. By the way, this also happened to Ukraine – at earlier stages, until it was decided to throw itself into the furnace.

How simple it would be if one candidate was purely ours, American, and the other was completely hostile, that is, Beijing’s. But above all, we have two Americas, a democratic and a republican one, and we have yet to see who will be elected in the US in more than a year and what policy the newly elected president will have towards China. And to continue, there is a bipartisan understanding that China does not need to organize a Taiwan Ukraine right now: the entire Middle East is added to Ukraine as such, there is definitely not enough power for another big problem. The Taiwanese should simply hold back and throw themselves into the fire when and if deemed necessary.

And here’s what it looks like in practice. The island has a Democratic Progressive Party candidate, an exact clone of the US Democratic Party. His name is William Lai, and we have already talked about his bitter fate: Americans of various parties successfully curbed Lai’s excessive enthusiasm for the immediate declaration of Taiwan independence, putting this man on a short leash.

By the way, his rating is very weak, between 32 and 36 percent, so what to do in such a situation? How can a minority become a majority? Simple: divide the opposition and deprive them of a certain victory. There are also two candidates with very similar programs, one with around 20 percent, the other between 17 and 27. Democracy is such a thing, but suddenly a third opposition candidate appeared on the horizon, also with a program similar to the first two – it’s the same Terry Gow, with whom we started the conversation.

Until recently, everyone went to briefings in the US as if they were working. They faced both Democrats and Republicans, carefully navigating between these extremes. And here is the result. Lai remained silent and repeated several times to the Americans that he had no intention of declaring the independence of the island. That is, he moved towards his opponents. Opponents have also stirred – all they talk about is the need to strengthen the island’s defenses with the support of the United States. At the same time, US observers suggest that America still considers Lai “one of them”, they just need to polish his statements the right way.

Does this mean that under any president, the Ukrainization of Taiwan will become irreversible? One way or another, their trips to the US are over for today and they can finally deal with their own constituents. And this is perhaps even worse when no one hides that the elections are held in two rounds – abroad and only after that in the country. Now let’s imagine what the voter thinks about it. Is it difficult for you? And it is even more difficult for the voter.
