The Côte d’Or has launched its “Marshall plan” for rural municipalities

François Sauvadet has one quality: he has a sense of timing. Seizing the opportunity offered by the “day of mayors of Côte-d’Or”, organized in Dijon on May 19, the president of the departmental council unveiled a “Marshall plan”, presented as “historic”, aimed at supporting projects of the municipalities. If the comparison with the Truman government program is quite relative, the financial effort of the community is no less notable: 150 million euros over five years, which will be added to the other budget lines intended to help the rurality. To finance these investments, the department will use the resources linked to a savings plan already underway, which has enabled it to generate room for maneuver of around 90 million euros.

Major projects Côte-d’Or

Future contracts, entitled “Grands projets Côte-d’Or”, and the amount of aid will be adapted according to the projects and the size of the municipalities. The repair of the roof of a church, the maintenance of which weighs heavily on the finances of the villages, could for example be supported up to 60%.

“We will be there whenever the region and the State are not present (…) The preservation of heritage is an essential issue for the territory”, underlined the centrist elected official, taking advantage of his speech to criticize, a once again, the phenomenon of “metropolisation” at work in the country.

“Densification leads us into the wall. Today, there is an aspiration for a better quality of life, “continued François Sauvadet, not without scratching in passing, the inclinations of a city center – Dijon – to act, according to him, in autonomy, without radiating on the territory. “I like Dijon in Côte-d’Or, not next to Côte-d’Or”, thus launched the departmental president, whose disagreements with that of Dijon Métropole, the socialist François Rebsamen, are well known. The new plan officially baptized “solidarity communes Côte-d’Or” will be submitted to the vote of the departmental assembly in June.
