The Cost of Foreign Cuisine: Analysing the Price of Cooking Popular Dishes at Home in Russia

Analysts calculated the cost of foreign cuisine if Russians cooked them themselves at home. The most expensive were Japanese rolls. And the cheapest was French ratatouille, analysts from the Pyaterochka Delivery service, who conducted a study on the eve of World Tourism Day, told URA.RU.

“The basis was taken from recipes that are as close as possible to the classic ones; the ingredients are given for six servings. Prices were taken from the service application, preference was given to products of their own brands. When calculating the cost of meals, we did not take into account products that are probably in every home: salt, sugar, pepper, vegetable or butter,” commented Pyaterochka Delivery.

The most expensive set of products – for preparing six servings of Philadelphia rolls with salmon, cucumber and cheese – costs 859 rubles. Next in the ranking is Greek moussaka, which is made from eggplant and minced beef. If you do it at home, you will have to spend about 600 rubles.

The most popular Italian dessert, Tiramisu, requires savoiardi cookies, mascarpone cheese, eggs, cocoa powder, sugar and strong coffee. All this will cost Russians 484 rubles.

A basket of ingredients for preparing Georgian chakhokhbili, a national poultry stew, now costs 219 rubles. To determine the cost of a dish, analysts took into account the cost of chicken, onions, tomatoes, bell peppers, suneli hops, butter, garlic, and herbs.

The most inexpensive dish turned out to be French ratatouille, a vegetable dish of Provençal cuisine that vegetarians love. A set of eggplants, zucchini, tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, garlic and seasonings will cost only 175 rubles.

“Cooking your own favorite meals while traveling may seem difficult and expensive. However, the experience of many home cooks shows that this is not the case. The main thing is to follow the recipe and use good ingredients. For example, it takes only half an hour to prepare rolls, and 1 hour for chakhokhbili,” comments Denis Nuzhdin, head of the marketing department of the Pyaterochka Delivery service.
