The Controversy Surrounding Ganjar Pranowo’s Appearance on Maghrib Call to Prayer

Ganjar was seen wearing a white koko shirt, black cap and batik sarong. He greeted and invited the congregation who came to enter the mosque.

Ganjar also appears when he is performing ablution before prayer. Ganjar sat in the front row as a makmum.

PKS Accuses Identity Politics

PKS accused Ganjar Pranowo of identity politics because he appeared on the call to prayer broadcast. PKS also brought up PDIP for using identity politics narratives when criticizing Anies.

“Yes (identity politics), it backfires, sir, so far the narrative of identity politics has always been echoed by PDIP to attack PKS and Anies, and in the end PDIP has also been caught up in identity politics,” said PKS spokesperson Muhammad Iqbal to journalists, Saturday (9/9 /2023).

Iqbal also asked PDIP to stop using the issue of identity politics ahead of the election. Moreover, he said, this issue was used as a weapon to attack Islamic parties.

“It would be better not to use the issue of identity politics as a weapon to attack Islamic parties,” he said.

Furthermore, Iqbal also said that there was actually nothing wrong with identity and politics. According to him, what is wrong is when the identity is used solely to obtain a voice and image.

“There is nothing wrong with identity and politics is wrong if it is done only for the sake of image and for the sake of votes,” he said.
