Peter Sagan and Mark Cavendish are having fun in Singapore.

Expectations are high, there is no shortage of nervousness and hectic maneuvers. In the end, Mark Cavendish attacks from the right side, but he doesn’t have enough space next to the barrier, and after contact with Peter Sagan, the Briton falls.

Cavendish suffers a broken collarbone in the fall and is out of the Tour. The judging jury will come up with a strange decision, for which their bosses will later apologize – disqualification for Sagan!

The moment six years ago is well remembered by all cycling fans, not only from Slovakia.

At that moment, Cavendish became enemy number 1 under the Tatras, and several supporters blamed him for Sagan losing his chance for another green jersey due to his headless riding style.

“The year before, Sagan blew his world title in Doha and he ended up in tears. Mark simply wanted to prove that he was faster. It all ended unhappily,” Eurosport commentators described the incident at the time.

Although many Slovaks will disagree, Cavendish, despite his British bulldog nature, is one of the most popular riders in the peloton. Former Slovak professional Martin Velits, who worked with the Briton in the same team, will confirm this.

“Driving against Marko is difficult, he doesn’t budge even a millimeter and doesn’t give his opponent space in the sprint. It’s his job, he does it one hundred percent. I understand that from the outside it may seem that he is arrogant. On the other hand, among the leaders for whom I drove during my career, I had the best time working with him. He knew how to appreciate the work of his colleagues, he communicated well not only with them, but also with the team management.

He did not take it for granted that others often sacrificed themselves for him. Whether it was a key member of his sprint train or “just” a domestic who did most of the work in the first part of the race, he respected everyone equally. Mark is a great guy and an exceptional person,” said Velits in a recent interview for Športweb.

Sagan is of a similar opinion. The regular rivals from the sprints explained the incident from Tour 2017 and they like each other again.

This is also proven by the above-mentioned picture from Singapore, where Sagan, Cavendish and other elite cyclists will complete the exhibition criterium under the banner of Tour de France on Sunday.
