She said that it had been decided to entrust the further development of the planned dance concert or performance on July 3, 2023 to the Latvian Performing Arts Dance Consultative Council.
LNKC announced a competition last December, receiving five artistic concept offers. Evaluating the compliance of each application with the terms of reference of the competition and the quality of the description of the idea of the artistic concept, the competition commission decided not to submit any of the tenders to the second round of the competition.
Rita Spalva, the chairman of the competition commission, pointed out that as the total amount of evaluation points individually awarded by the commission members was not sufficient for one of the applicants to qualify for the second round, the commission unanimously decided to encourage the LNKC to apply to the Latvian Performing Arts XXVII General Latvian Song and XVII Dance Festival dance concert or performance.
Representatives of the Latvian stage dance industry Spalva, Zanda Mūrniece, Iveta Pētersone-Lazdāne, Santa Laurinoviča and Jānis Ērglis, who were recommended by the LNKC Advisory Council of the Latvian stage dance industry by voting, included in the composition of the competition commission established by LNKC. The commission also included director Ināra Slucka and set designer Mārtiņš Vilkārsis.
The task of the competition was to create an artistic concept of a concert or performance, including artistic, directional and scenographic ideas, as well as the principles of repertoire creation. The submitted tenders were evaluated while maintaining the anonymity of the tenderers.
Kazlauskiene noted that the Latvian stage folk dance concert or performance is planned as the second largest event of the dance genre next to the dance grand performance at the General Latvian Song and Dance Festival in 2023. The aim of the event is to preserve and reveal the Latvian stage of folk dance in a new quality within the genre, showing both the most outstanding choreography and creative possibilities, without excluding innovations.
