The European team was close to winning its fourth title in the series after the second day of the 2021 Laver Cup. He won all four matches in Boston on Saturday and clearly led the rest of the world 11: 1 over the team. He only needs to get two points to defend the championship.

In Saturday’s singles, first Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated Australian Nick Kyrgios 6: 3, 6: 4, then German Alexander Zverev defeated John Isner from the USA after a tough fight 7: 6 (5), 6: 7 (6), 10: 5 and the third victory was secured by the European winner of the US Open Daniil Medvedev from Russia, who managed with the Canadian Denis Shapovalov 6: 4, 6: 0.

“I played incredible tennis, especially in the second set. I didn’t know what to expect after the US Open, I didn’t play for one and a half weeks. I tried to train fully for three days and I felt good on the court.” Medvedeva was quoted by the AFP agency.

The 100-day day for the team from the old continent ended with a pair of Tsitsipas, Andrei Rublov, who defeated Isner in a doubles match with Kyrgios 6: 7 (8), 6: 3 and 10: 4.

At the Laver Cup, one point is awarded for victory on the first day, on Saturday each win is rewarded with two points and on Sunday up to three points. The event is won by the team that scores 13 points first.

The biggest stars are missing at the 4th Laver Cup, for the first time the tournament must be done without a complete “big three” Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

Federer, who initiated the Laver Cup and is its co-owner, is, like Nadal, still among the injured. Djokovic refused to participate in the tournament after an extremely demanding course of the season.

The European team has won the previous three editions of the prestigious event.
