After the installation for August 1 on the New York islet of Rat Island, of a replica of the statue of William Tell, flanked by American and Swiss flags and road signs, the coat of arms of the watchmaking metropolis has been floating since Sunday at the off the Bronx.
“The banner with the hive and its seven bees was hoisted by Alex Schibli, one of the two Swiss co-owners of the island on which the Zurich artist Gerry Hofstetter created this installation which will remain in place for years” , rejoices the City of La Chaux-de-Fonds in a press release on Tuesday.

As a reminder, Gerry Hofstetter wants with this installation, called “Tell goes west – To the Big Apple”, to highlight the links between Switzerland and the United States, including many with the watchmaking metropolis: the birthplace of Louis Chevrolet, who became over there the car manufacturer that we know, and Blaise Cendrars, author of L’Or with General Sutter, checkerboard plan, watchmaking technological bridges, Le Corbusier exhibition at the MoMa in 2013, etc.
