The Changing Fate of FTX Boss Sam Bankman Fried: Facing Prison and Fear of Losing Internet Access

Jakarta

The fate of the FTX boss Sam Bankman Fried totally changed. From being able to go on a spree, now he has to face his biggest fear in prison.

Bankman once had wealth of up to USD 16 billion in November 2022. But now his wealth has disappeared, along with the collapse of FTX, and he is facing a sentence of more than 100 years in prison for various violations of federal law against him.

Previously, Bankman’s lawyer complained that his client only ate bread in prison because he was a vegetarian. He was also said to be unable to get a supply of Adderall and Emsat drugs to treat his depression and attention deficit disorder (ADHD).

However, it was later revealed that he had another, worst fear about prison. Namely not being able to access the internet.

This is known from Michael Lewis, who wrote a book about Bankman. Lewis interviewed Bankman exclusively, and released a Bankman related book entitled ‘Going Infinite’.

Lewis said the thing Bankman fears most about prison is internet access. He even said that Bankman was willing to be imprisoned for life as long as he could access the internet.

“Without having a constant supply of information, I think he would have gone crazy,” Lewis said.

In fact, if Bankman was given the choice of living in a USD 39 million mansion in the Bahamas without an internet connection, or being imprisoned in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn with internet access, without a second thought he would choose to stay in prison.

As is known, Bankman was arrested in the Bahamas and then extradited to the United States, after previously being held in a Bahamian prison which was known to be infested with rats and maggots, very disgusting and said to be unfit for humans.
