The Center Party rejected Isamaa’s opposition in Viimsi

In the new coalition of the Viimsi municipality, the partners of the Center Party are the Reform Party, Estonia 200 and the electoral alliance Vali Viimsi, and the Isamaa party was relegated to the opposition, writes Postimees.

After the change, the power alliance of the 21-member municipal council will have 14 members instead of the previous 13, reorganizations will also take place in the municipal government, the Center Party announced.

Chairwoman of the Viims department of the Center Party Annika Vaikla according to him, the Center Party is ready to contribute to the development of Viims. “We have significantly more opportunities for this in the power alliance,” he said.

The deputy chairman of the Viimsi municipal council, Jan Trei from Isamaa, told Postimeh that until now there was a fully functional coalition in Viimsi. “We have been loyal to the coalition partners, we have contributed to the fulfillment of the coalition agreement, the implementation of the election promises of the Motherland. We were responsible for the education sector of Viims,” said Trei and mentioned the extension of the Randvere school as one of the work’s victories.

“I think that mathematics was at play here,” Trei admitted. Namely, the former coalition had a total of 13 votes, but a majority would be needed. “In order to expand the coalition and include the Center Party, we have previously discussed with our former coalition partners. But unfortunately it happened that we did not include the fifth partner and instead Isamaa was replaced by the Center Party,” said Trei.

Isamaa has an agreement with the former coalition partners that the current Viims coalition agreement, which includes many Isamaa points, will remain valid.

The chairman of the Viimsi municipal council, Atso Matsalu from Eesti 200, said that nothing special happened in Viimsi. “For the coalition to function better, a change was needed,” said Matsalu. He added that they will definitely continue with the same coalition agreement and will not dismantle it.
