A few days ago, a filter function on the camera of the One Plus 8 Pro caused a sensation. The filter for landscapes in combination with infrared is supposed to ensure that the user can see impressive textures in his image. However, this function could be misused, which made it possible to actually see through objects.

That was the case with thin plastic, for example. Doesn’t work like a nude scanner now, but some things can be examined at close range. This not only gave a positive echo to OnePlus, it also expressed people who have concerns. OnePlus now takes those concerns as an opportunity, the function first deactivate once:

In order to eliminate the impact on user privacy in possible extreme circumstances and to address everyone’s concerns, we decided to temporarily disable the filtering feature through software upgrades.

In the near future, they want to “solve the problem”, but still enable users to take breathtaking photos. The filter is supposed to return in a different form, but is obviously deprived of its special capabilities. Of course, the question remains whether resourceful app developers can unlock such a mechanism again …
