The business vehicle market down 9.05% in February 2021

After a good start at + 4.32% in January, “February was not successful for manufacturers,” notes the Arval Mobility Observatory. In fact, 68,692 light vehicles were registered in companies in February 2021, i.e. – 9.05% compared to the figures for February 2020, with an identical number of working days.

This decrease affected both the passenger car segment and that of light commercial vehicles, with 39,561 PCs (- 12.86%) and 29,131 LCVs (- 2.94%) put on the road last month. However, the company vehicle market is doing better than the national market, which posted a decline of 17.92% in February 2021, with 169,911 units registered.

Energies: only the hybrid progresses

On the energy side, registrations of diesel vehicles fell by 17.67% to 43,315 units and those of gasoline by 10.84% ​​to 13,438 units. Conversely, sales of hybrids increased by 82.04% to 9,099 units, including 4,255 plug-in hybrids (+ 141.62%) and 4,844 non-plug-in hybrids (+ 50.36%).

“On the other hand, the electric standstill with a decline of 8.07% to 2,505 passenger car + LCV registrations, points out the observatory. As in January, it is the private vehicle segment which explains this situation, with a drop of 12.33% to 1,848 registrations. “

– 2.94% over the first two months of 2021

In total, over the first two months of the year, 132,022 light vehicles were registered in the company, i.e. – 2.94% compared to the same period in 2020. In detail, 75,038 VP (- 6.75% ) and 56,984 LCVs (+ 2.59%) were put on the road. “In comparison, the national automotive market has declined since the start of the year by 11.37% (331,139 passenger cars + LCVs),” says Arval Mobility Observatory.

The business market was again driven by hybrid engines with 17,492 units registered (+ 90.3%) including 7,981 plug-in hybrids (+ 165.68%) and 9,511 non-plug-in hybrids (+ 53.35%). At the same time, electrics fell by 2.21% to 4,904 units, gasoline by 3.56% to 24,944 units and diesel by 12.17% to 84,047 units.

The two-month market shares thus stood at 63.66% for diesel, 18.89% for gasoline, 13.25% for hybrid and 3.71% for electric.
