the boulevards of Europe and Henri IV in one direction, on an experimental basis

In order to make traffic in the city center more fluid and to make journeys safer for all forms of mobility, a modification of the circulation pattern will be introduced on an experimental basis, on 4 occasions during the month of April. During weeks 14, 15, 16 and 17, two boulevards will be placed in one direction, from Wednesday afternoon until Thursday afternoon.

On Thursday morning, a weekly market day in Ambert, traffic is significantly more important than at any other time of the week. A phenomenon that is accentuated during school holidays, as is the case in April. The City of Ambert has therefore decided, in consultation with the services of the Departmental Council of Puy-de-Dôme, to set up an experiment aimed at placing the boulevards of Europe and Henri IV in one direction of traffic.

Valid for soft mobility

Concretely, all road users will be invited to go up Boulevard Henri IV to reach the top of the city and down Boulevard de l’Europe towards the roundabout at Place Georges Courtial. At the crossroads of streets and squares leading to these two boulevards, obligations to turn left or right will be introduced. (see the city center map below).

This traffic pattern must make traffic more fluid and allow all road users to move in the same direction., including soft mobility which can be integrated into traffic in better safety conditions. This scheme will also avoid crossings between vehicles on Boulevard de l’Europe, crossings which can be complicated by the parking spaces arranged alternately on either side of the road.

Park in the correct direction of traffic

For the success of this experiment, of which the municipal decree specifies thatit will start on Wednesdays April 7, 14, 21 and 28 at 4 p.m. and end on Thursdays April 8, 15, 22 and 29 at 6 p.m., residents and traders parked on the boulevards de l’Europe and Henri IV, are invited to park in such a way that they are in the correct direction of traffic when leaving their parking space.

In addition, professionals who settle in the market will be affected by these adaptations, upon their arrival Thursday at the very beginning of the morning, then upon their departure at midday. A report will be drawn up in the light of the observations made at the end of this experiment spread over 4 weeks.
