The books of Julia Navarro and María Oruña, the most requested for loan in Madrid libraries

The Community lends more than a million books from January to June

During the first half of the year, the Community of Madrid made a total of 1,077,427 free book loans and, among its most requested books, are the works of Julia Navarro and María Oruña.

Of these, 615,767 have been borrowed from the 15 regionally managed public libraries and 461,660 from the eBiblio digital platform, which means almost 6,000 newspapers on average. These figures reflect an increase of up to 37% and 5%, respectively, with respect to those achieved in the same period of 2021, the regional government has reported in a statement.

The Madrid Executive invests 2.7 million euros per year in the renewal of the catalogs of these public cultural centers. Regarding the preferences of the readers, the most requested from January to June have been ‘From nowhere’, by Julia Navarro, and ‘Lo que la tidal hides’, by María Oruña.

Other titles are ‘El italiano’, by Arturo Pérez Reverte; ‘Sira’, by María Dueñas; and Carmen Mola with ‘The Beast’, ‘La Nena’ or ‘The Gypsy Bride’. Among all these novels, ‘Infinity in a Reed’, by Irene Vallejo, remains one of the most borrowed essays.

As for children, in the ranking of this interval appear ‘Doraemon’, by Fujiko F. Fujio; ‘Naruto’, by Masashi Kishimoto; ‘Once upon a time there was the human body’, by Ramón Llobet Colomé; ‘Animallotes’, by Aaron Blabey; and ‘This is the last straw!’, by Jeff Kinney.

Among the most popular films and series are ‘Patria’ and the feature films ‘Las Niñas’, directed by Pilar Palomero, and ‘El padre’, by Florian Zeller.

Music preferences lean towards the group Vetusta Morla and their album ‘Cable a tierra’ and Billie Eilish and ‘When we all fall asleep?’. On the other hand, users can also access the eBiblio platform, an online service for free lending of electronic books that can be accessed by simply having a card from one of the public libraries or bibliobuses in the region and having a password as a user.

The Community of Madrid has more than 13,000 titles of interest in various languages ​​and formats: periodicals, audiobooks and electronic books, as well as a film collection with more than 6,000 audiovisual documents.

This documentary collection has increased during the first half of 2022 with some 2,200 titles and almost 12,000 licenses for electronic books, newspapers and magazines by the Subdirectorate General for Books.

During this year the most demanded titles in eBiblio have been ‘La Bestia’, by Carmen Mola; ‘Last days in Berlin’, by Paloma Sánchez-Garnica; ‘Hammet’, by Maggie O’Farrell; ‘The Italian’, by Pérez-Reverte and ‘The Swifts’ by Fernando Aramburu.

Regarding audiovisuals, 15,354 loans were made and more than 56% used the mobile application as a means of reading. Among the most requested magazines are El furniture, Easy Kitchen or Brico.

The Community of Madrid currently has more than half a million registered for the loan system: 459,277 users registered in its public libraries, to which are added the 64,548 of eBiblio.
