The Blizzard death toll in the United States rises to 49 people

The winter storm has hit United States of America it has killed at least 49 people in nine states since the last few days.

reported AFP extensiona blizzard that hit parts of the northeastern US led to power outages, dozens of deaths, and cut short people’s Christmas trips.

New York authorities have revealed that extreme weather conditions claimed the lives of people in the city of Buffalo, the hardest hit, when they were in a vehicle and buried by snow.

Bad weather has also caused 15,000 flights to be halted in recent days. Four thousand flights were also blocked on Monday (26/12), according to the website Flightaware.com.

“This is the (worst) blizzard of this century,” New York Governor Kathy Hochul said.

“It’s too early to tell it’s over.”

Hochul said winter storms in his area caused up to three feet of snow to accumulate in parts of western New York overnight.

Erie County official Mark Poloncarz also said deaths from the winter storm have reached 27.

Poloncarz said the current death toll may exceed the number of fatalities in Buffalo under similar conditions in 1977. Nearly 30 people died from the winter storms at that time.
