The Blanquer episode in Ibiza is reminiscent of the mayor of Springfield in “The Simpsons”

BLANQUER – The Simpsons were 30 years ahead. Mediapart revealed on January 17 that Jean-Michel Blanquer was on vacation in Ibiza on the eve of the start of the school year on January 3. It was from the Balearic Islands that he revealed to the Parisian the new -and controversial- health protocol for schools. On social networks, the parallel was quickly made with an episode of The Simpsons, dating from 1993.

As you can see in the video above, the episode in question has already been described as “premonitory” of the Covid epidemic. An epidemic from Asia spreads to the United States and affects the city of Springfield. In the extract in question, the mayor Quimby of the city, claims to have canceled his vacation in the Bahamas because of the epidemic. And the Simpsons are not the only ones to imagine the improbable, as shown by this April Fool’s joke or parody tweet published on April 1, 2021.

But in the pictures, the frame unravels and we see the elected official in a swimsuit under his suit jacket, which is well under the sun. A scene that had already been mentioned when Governor Ted Cruz was on vacation in Cancun, Mexico, while his administration was in the middle of a storm.

In Quebec, a controversy had also pinned MP Pierre Arcand, who went on vacation to Barbados during the holidays, in the midst of a pandemic. Again the image of Mayor Quimby was used.

This isn’t the first time The Simpsons have been called “prescient”. The Simpsons had for example “predicted” this major scene from episode 5 of “GoT”.
