Six-time Formula One (F-1) driver Lewis Hamilton (“Mercedes”) on Saturday at his home track in Silverston won the qualifying race and won his seventh pole position in his homeland.
In his best attempt, Hamilton drove the track in a minute and 24,303 seconds.
It was already the seventh pole position for the British pilot on the Silverstone track, but the third this season. During his career, he won a total of 91 first places.
His teammate Walter Botass will be next to Hamilton on Sunday, 0.313 seconds behind on Saturday.
The second starting lineup will feature Max Verstapen (Red Bull) and Charles Leclar (Ferrari), who lost 1,022 and 1.124 seconds to the leader, respectively. Immediately behind this duo will be Lendo Norris (“McLaren”) and Lens Strols (“Racing Point”).
Another Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel finished in the top ten, but Niko Hilkenberg (Racing Point) finished in 13th place, having to replace Serhio Peres, who was ill with Covid-19, at the last minute.
Significantly, Hamilton did not master the formula in one of the turns in the second qualification and turned around his axis several times. After the accident, a red flag was hoisted on the track, because the car had thrown gravel stones on the track.
On Friday the fastest in the second training session was Strols, while on Saturday in the third training session the fastest was Botass.
The grand prize competition is scheduled for Sunday.
After three completed stages, the leader with 63 points is Hamilton, followed by Botass with 58 points. Verstapen has 33 points, Lendo Noris has 26 points, and Alexander Albon and Serhio Peress, who made their F-1 debut in 2011, scored 22 points each.
A record number of races were planned this season (22), but due to the coronavirus pandemic, the organizers are now approving 13 stages.
Last season, Hamilton was crowned world champion, triumphing for the sixth time in his career and for the third time in a row.
